Be together, not the SAME.(Android logo)
My piece is about how we are the same because of our differences. No matter what, you're still a person. I made my pieces proportional- despite that they are all different ages, ethnicities, and gender. I did this to show that even though we're different that doesn't mean that we need to be separate. If we where all the same, life would be boring; no matter your age, race, gender, or anything else, you are never too different to fit in. After all, it's our differences that bring us together.

30" X 24" Old White Man
Acrylic Originally, my idea was spiritual gifts, rather than humans as a whole. My focus was the church as the body of Christ, and 'many parts, one body.' Piece was made to represent prophecy, that is why it has more of a deep thought look. I was going to demonstrate the gifts through different body parts, but as I went on and after discussing it with my AP teacher, we came up with just focusing on people as a whole, and making it a giant face that all fit together proportionally. |
16" X 20" Arabic Teenage girl
Acrylic Once I had decided on doing a giant face, I had to plan out what I could do to get my point across through the images. I realized that it would be most powerful to visually show the differences of people. I explored the landscape of facial features on people of different ages, races, and genders. Such how in piece number one, I used an old white man, I switched it up in image two, by using a young Arabic girl. |
24'' X 30'' Baby
Acrylic Piece number three was based on an infant. This piece was interesting to execute because babies faces are not fully developed; I still wanted to make sure that the features and values matched up with the rest of the face, in order to give the overall feeling of unity. |
In pieces nine and ten, I switched it up by using watercolor, in order to capture a looser feel. My purpose, in joining together the colors and values of the surrounding features, was to help bring unity to the whole face, but also to fill in gaps.
Now even with 10 pieces total and 6 races, it all comes together as one piece. After all, our differences reveal our connections.
